HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLTON JAMES!!!! I can’t believe my baby boy is 5 today! Since we’re living in Italy, this lucky little guy gets to celebrate three times! His first celebration was back home in New Mexico with his friends and family where we had a modern bohemian “Where the Wild Things Are” birthday celebration, filled with yummy food, games, crafting, & swimming.
Being an Interior Design, I am passionate about creating unique aesthetics and experiences no matter what the circumstances. While planning birthday parties are much more work than I think people initially anticipate, it’s completely worth it when you see the joy your little ones gets out of something that you’ve created for them.
For this event, I decided to try to craft as much as I could and to keep the overall design as simplistic and organic as possible to not only keep costs down, but also to keep labor to a minimum. Thankfully, I was able to find a majority of things for the party from etsy, and used a lot of props I already owned, such as, the tent, blanket, craft table, and other elements. As for activities, I decided to create a little area where kids could craft their own crowns/monster masks, a “pin the tail on Max” game, and swimming to represent Max’s journey in his boat. As for food, I kept it simple with a gourmet trail mix and chips for people to snack on and grilled burgers and mac & cheese for a child friendly meal. I usually try to go all out and do the whole Pinterest, creative foods with names that have to do with the theme, but honestly, what I’ve learned from the past is a lot of that goes wasted. Keeping things simple ended up working out much better!
Hope you enjoy & hopefully this design will inspire your next event! I made sure to list a few of the main sources I used to help in your planning!
